JAMES
W. POTTS, owner of Potts & Associates, has assisted and represented
employers in a variety of areas involving employer-employee relations
for more than twenty five years, at first as an employee and then as
a business partner and owner. He is a native New Yorker who earned
a BA degree in history from California State University at Los
Angeles and a Juris Doctorate from the University of West Los
Angeles Law School.
During his last year in law school, Potts began working for National
Employers Council, an employer group that helps companies reduce
their unemployment taxes. Potts rose to corporate senior vice
president after he successfully introduced new programs to assist
their clients in all aspects of human resources.
In
1992, Potts formed JWP Consulting Group and, a few years later,
joined forces with Armstrong, an eighteen-year veteran of the
industry, who specialized in non-profit employers. Potts, Armstrong
& Associates was in the right place at the right time and
began to grow rapidly. In 1999, after viewing the increasingly
positive market opportunities and trends, Potts decided to form
Potts & Associates and take his organization to a new level.
Associated
with the firm is Maria Raygoza, who has worked with Potts for
24 years. Raygoza is the firm's senior vice president and junior partner,
reflecting not only her years of dedication but also her capabilities
and professionalism in interacting with clients and with state
and federal agencies.
P&A
is a broad-based employment consulting firm practiced in unemployment
cost control, human resources management, supervisor training,
and other critical labor relations areas. Potts represents his
clients before the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement
on wage claim issues, and, in discrimination claims, before the
California Department of Fair Employment & Housing and the
U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Unemployment
costs can be most burdensome to sales and service businesses that
traditionally experience high labor-turnover rates. For such companies,
P&A monitors the hiring process, layoffs, and terminations,
ensuring that documentation is adequate to support or deny claims
and settle disputes. Potts estimates that the State of California
alone overpays unemployment insurance benefits by an average 10
percent, an amount that, recovered, can make a substantial difference
to a company's bottom line. Potential clients are offered a free
analysis of their unemployment tax account and an estimate of
what they might save by using P&A's services.
In
addition to unemployment cost control, P&A provides human
resources directors for companies who prefer to have their human
resources department outsourced. The Potts & Associates professional,
serving as an HR liaison, is able to avoid potential lawsuits
by devising activities to improve overall company morale and dealing
in-house with such labor issues as employee discrimination, harassment,
training, hiring, and termination.
Potts & Associates invites your inquiries and looks forward
to serving your needs in an area of vital concern to all businesses
in the modern, globalized, and high-tech driven economy.
